Description

Juicy hamburger steaks baked in creamy gravy for the ultimate old-fashioned Amish comfort dinner. Simple, hearty, and perfect with mashed potatoes.


Ingredients

Hamburger Steaks

  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Creamy Gravy

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth (low sodium)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form into 6–8 oval patties and let rest.
  4. Brown patties in an oven-safe skillet for 3–4 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions in butter.
  6. Add flour and cook 2 minutes. Whisk in beef broth and heavy cream until smooth.
  7. Nestle patties into the gravy.
  8. Cover and bake 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 more minutes.
  9. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
