Description

Juicy hamburger steaks baked in creamy gravy for the ultimate old-fashioned Amish comfort dinner. Simple, hearty, and perfect served with mashed potatoes.


Ingredients

  • Hamburger Steaks
  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Creamy Gravy
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth (low sodium)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper.
  2. Form into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and set aside.
  3. Brown patties in an oven-safe skillet for 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced onions until soft.
  5. Stir in flour and cook for 2 minutes, then whisk in beef broth and heavy cream until smooth.
  6. Nestle patties into the gravy, cover tightly, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  7. Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes.
  8. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
