Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 2 eggs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 cup additional cheese for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, cheddar cheese, milk, ketchup, onion, eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
- Mix until just combined without overworking the meat.
- Transfer mixture to the baking dish and shape into a loaf or spread evenly.
- Smooth the top for even cooking.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 155–160°F.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle with remaining cheese.
- Return to oven and bake for 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Sauté onions beforehand for a milder flavor.
- Use mozzarella or a cheese blend for a different topping flavor.
