Description

Make Chick-fil-A–style waffle fries at home with this simple recipe! Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned — these golden fries are a fast-food favorite made fresh in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

  • For the Fries:
  • 3 large russet potatoes
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For Seasoning:
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional: a pinch of paprika or garlic powder for extra flavor

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly. Using a waffle fry cutter or mandoline with a crinkle blade, slice the potatoes about ¼ inch thick. Rotate the potato 90° between each slice to create the waffle pattern.
  2. Soak the Fries: Place the sliced potatoes in a large bowl of cold water mixed with vinegar and salt. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours). This removes excess starch for crispier fries.
  3. Pre-Fry (First Fry): Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 325°F (160°C). Drain and pat the fries completely dry. Fry in batches for 3–4 minutes, until lightly golden but not yet crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Final Fry: Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C). Fry the potatoes again for 2–3 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Drain and season immediately with salt (and optional spices).
  5. Serve & Enjoy: Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces — like Chick-fil-A sauce, ranch, or ketchup!

Notes

  • For best results, use russet potatoes — they fry up crispy and fluffy.
  • Double frying is the secret to perfect texture: the first fry cooks the potatoes, the second crisps them.
  • You can air fry the waffle fries at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway through, for a lighter version.
