Description

Chicken Fried Chicken is a Southern comfort classic featuring crispy, golden-fried chicken breasts served with a rich and creamy homemade gravy. Perfect for a hearty family meal.


Ingredients

  • 68 thin sliced chicken breasts
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • Oil for frying
  • Gravy:
  • 1/4 cup reserved oil from frying
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt & pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce.
  4. Dredge chicken in flour mixture, dip into egg mixture, then back into flour mixture, pressing to coat well.
  5. Fry chicken 3–5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Repeat with remaining chicken.
  7. Make gravy: Heat 1/4 cup reserved oil in a pan. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
  8. Slowly whisk in milk and cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Serve chicken topped with gravy.

  • Maintain oil temperature for best crispy texture.
  • Add extra black pepper to gravy for classic Southern flavor.
