Description
This Crème Brûlée French Toast is rich, custardy, and topped with a caramelized sugar crust. Perfect for brunch or a decadent breakfast treat.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf brioche or challah bread (12-14 slices)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
- ½ cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
- ½ cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (or nutmeg)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Cut bread into thick slices and arrange in a greased baking dish.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Pour custard over bread, pressing down gently. Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake 25-30 minutes until top is golden and custard is set. Broil 2-3 minutes if desired for extra crisp.
- Sprinkle sugar on top and caramelize with a kitchen torch or under broiler for a crispy crust.
- Let cool slightly, then serve with berries, powdered sugar, or maple syrup.
