Description

Irresistibly Spicy Dragon Chicken is a quick Indo-Chinese delight featuring crispy chicken coated in a fiery, sweet-savory sauce. Perfect for a bold weeknight dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, sliced
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 egg white
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 23 dried red chilies or crushed red pepper flakes
  • ½ cup tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar or honey
  • ¼ cup water, as needed
  • Optional garnish: sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds, thin strips of fried onion or bell pepper


Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken with egg white, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken until golden and crispy, about 4–6 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.
  3. In the same skillet, add sesame oil. Sauté garlic, ginger, and chilies 1–2 minutes.
  4. Add ketchup, soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, vinegar, sugar; simmer 2–3 minutes, adding water if needed.
  5. Toss fried chicken into sauce, coating each piece. Simmer 1 more minute.
  6. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
