Description
One-Pan Creamy Chicken & Rice is a comforting, easy dinner made in a single skillet with tender chicken, creamy rice, melted cheese, and simple pantry spices.
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breasts or thighs
- 1 cup long-grain rice (uncooked)
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup milk or cream
- 1 small onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp oil
- ½ cup grated cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- Salt, black pepper, paprika (to taste)
- Optional: mushrooms, spinach, or peas
Instructions
- Sear the chicken: Heat oil and butter in a large pan. Season chicken with salt, pepper, and paprika. Sear 3–4 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
- Build the base: In the same pan, sauté onion and garlic until soft and fragrant.
- Add rice: Stir in uncooked rice and toast for 1–2 minutes.
- Add liquids: Pour in chicken broth and milk/cream. Stir and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Cook together: Return chicken to the pan. Cover and cook on low heat for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender and chicken is cooked through.
- Make it creamy: Add cheese and stir gently until melted and creamy.

- Use broth instead of water for deeper flavor.
- Add vegetables like peas or spinach near the end of cooking.
