Description
A delicious twist on the classic grilled cheese, combining the flavors of Pizza Margherita with gooey mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, and basil.
Ingredients
- 4 slices sourdough or rustic Italian bread
- 4 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
- 1.5 ounces grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 medium ripe tomato, thinly sliced
- 8–10 fresh basil leaves
- 4 tablespoons pizza sauce or marinara
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
- Pinch of dried oregano (optional)
Instructions
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Flip bread and spread pizza sauce on unbuttered sides.
- Layer mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil on two slices.
- Sprinkle Parmesan, salt, pepper, and oregano if using.
- Top with remaining bread, buttered side out.
- Cook in skillet over medium-low for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and melty.
- Rest briefly, slice, and serve warm.

- Add crushed red pepper flakes for heat.
- Try provolone or fontina for variation.
