Description

A delicious twist on the classic grilled cheese, combining the flavors of Pizza Margherita with gooey mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, and basil.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices sourdough or rustic Italian bread
  • 4 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 1.5 ounces grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium ripe tomato, thinly sliced
  • 810 fresh basil leaves
  • 4 tablespoons pizza sauce or marinara
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch of dried oregano (optional)


Instructions

  1. Butter one side of each bread slice.
  2. Flip bread and spread pizza sauce on unbuttered sides.
  3. Layer mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil on two slices.
  4. Sprinkle Parmesan, salt, pepper, and oregano if using.
  5. Top with remaining bread, buttered side out.
  6. Cook in skillet over medium-low for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and melty.
  7. Rest briefly, slice, and serve warm.
