Crispy, savory sausage hash brown appetizers—perfect bite-sized treats for parties or a fun snack. Loaded with cheese, hash browns, and sausage.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage (mild, maple, or spicy)
  • 1 (20 oz) package frozen shredded hash browns, thawed
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2-3 cups)
  • Optional: Sour cream or favorite dipping sauce
  • Optional: Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until no longer pink (7-10 minutes). Drain excess grease.
  2. Add onion and cook 3-5 minutes until softened.
  3. Combine sausage, onion, hash browns, cheese, flour, eggs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  4. Form mixture into small balls or patties and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Optional: Chill for 30 minutes to firm up.
  6. Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet or Dutch oven.
  7. Fry appetizers in batches 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve warm with dipping sauces and garnish with green onions if desired.
