Description

Crispy fried chicken coated in a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy sauce, General Tso’s Chicken is a classic Chinese-American favorite perfect for weeknight dinners or takeout cravings at home.

Ingredients

  • Breading:
  • 4 chicken breasts, cubed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or cornstarch)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic salt
  • Sauce:
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white distilled vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 6 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp red chili pepper flakes (optional)
  • 3/4 cup oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Coat chicken pieces in the breading mixture.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet or wok and fry chicken in batches until golden and cooked through. Remove and drain excess oil.
  3. Combine sugar, water, vinegar, salt, soy sauce, and red chili flakes to make the sauce.
  4. Pour sauce over fried chicken in the skillet. Bring to a boil, then simmer uncovered for 12 minutes, until sauce thickens and coats the chicken.
  5. Serve hot with steamed rice or vegetables.

Notes

  • Frying in batches ensures the chicken stays crispy.
  • Adjust chili flakes to taste for spiciness.
  • Use cornstarch instead of flour for a lighter, crispier coating.
