Description
Crispy fried chicken coated in a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy sauce, General Tso’s Chicken is a classic Chinese-American favorite perfect for weeknight dinners or takeout cravings at home.
Ingredients
- Breading:
- 4 chicken breasts, cubed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or cornstarch)
- 1 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp garlic salt
- Sauce:
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup white distilled vinegar
- 1 tsp salt
- 6 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp red chili pepper flakes (optional)
- 3/4 cup oil, for frying
Instructions
- Coat chicken pieces in the breading mixture.
- Heat oil in a skillet or wok and fry chicken in batches until golden and cooked through. Remove and drain excess oil.
- Combine sugar, water, vinegar, salt, soy sauce, and red chili flakes to make the sauce.
- Pour sauce over fried chicken in the skillet. Bring to a boil, then simmer uncovered for 12 minutes, until sauce thickens and coats the chicken.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or vegetables.
Notes
- Frying in batches ensures the chicken stays crispy.
- Adjust chili flakes to taste for spiciness.
- Use cornstarch instead of flour for a lighter, crispier coating.
